I wrote the following as a reply to the above post.  Looking at the poster's profile on Reddit revealed where this person was coming from and it was not in good faith:

So rather than waste the text I decided to post it here on the blog since it was useful to organize my thoughts..

Not really sure what you're looking for here. Your point of view can be seen clearly from your Reddit profile. You seem to lump everyone in who makes anything with AI as being "AI Spam" so why should anyone give you the time of day? Your mind is clearly made up.

I enjoy lofi hiphop since I first encountered it via DI.FM and started listening to it, which I first discovered years ago when it was available on Kodi (then XBMC) as a streaming music addon. Back then I mostly listened to vocal lounge. When I discovered it again on YouTube it was not as part of the ever present lofi girl streams but instead via an AMV that someone put together that produced a mellow feeling.

So when I started using Suno to make music it was only natural that one day I would try to see what I could put together.

I make a podcast of songs I generate, using a character I came up with in Midjourney and animated to do a repeatable but varied set of movements by animating image to video. I seem to get enough people who like what I do that I'm volume 10 of the podcast now. When I started I made a series of vignettes with Noisee and edited the clip together to be a series of moods. I was later told by a friend that I was doing it wrong. That no one was paying attention to all that and anyone listening was just putting it on as background without watching the vignettes so I switched away to doing the more standard versions I make now.

I have not monetized nor do I realistically expect to ever hit the number of views needed within a year's time. But I am having fun and enough people seem to like what I make that I keep doing it. I don't care if I'm having 'wrongfun' to you.

It's not the sole focus of what I do. It's just one of the things I enjoy making and sharing. I put time and effort into it because I'm not into making "AI Spam" or "AI Slop" I'm into making something fun and cool to share with others.

My personal goal is to learn how to edit properly as I go along, making fun videos. If by some miracle I should end up monetized and making anything from this stuff it would only go towards getting better hardware so I could afford to do more of this stuff using tools I don't have access to now. And in subscribing to better video generators so I can get better character movements and in making better and better videos in general.

But it's a strange sort of dichotomy with this stuff.  People get so upset about "AI Spam" or "AI slop" as if nothing good could possibly be made with AI but then they are also terrified of being replaced by AI.  So which is it?  Is AI generated stuff nothing but crap?  Or is it possible that people are using AI as yet another tool to make things with?  If the things being made are good, what is the problem?

Very odd.

Confused by Music Videos, part one

So I put on Pat Benatar's Love is a Battlefield again (because I love the song) but for the love of Mike, can someone, anyone please explain the video to me?  As always it leaves me baffled. Is the boy upstairs her brother or her boyfriend, like David was to Darlene on Roseanne?  (I know the video predates the tv show, it's just an example of a situation.) And the lyrics for the scenes don't exactly help make sense of things here either.  Not too sure about that touching there given the uncertain relationship but the video has "Dad" telling her that if she leaves she can't come back so it's odd to think of it being a boyfriend in that circumstance, because wouldn't the boyfriend leave with her?  What exactly are they fighting for?  What is the battlefield in this case? Is she supposed to be a paid dancer in that bar\club she's in?  Because honestly, she looks so excited to be there.  Just look at her face. When she and the other girls in the bar f...

Writing Prompts: "This combo is so fucking bullshit. Secret Smallpox Lab and Genetic Pandemic don't work this way when you have Beneficial Mutation in play and no, Hazmat Suit can't be activated from hand. This is the last time I play Science: The Hypothesis with you"

I discovered an old Reddit account I had for posting stories and writing prompts was somehow still active and decided to raid it for some of the older stuff I wrote while trying to get better at writing.  There isn't much but here is what there is... "Wait! Wait…what’s wrong with it?" The small figure holding several books in his tiny hands asked. "Everything!" The angry voice replied. "For one thing it violates the rule of threes!" "Oh for @#$%!" Cried the oversized bunny rabbit throwing its paws up in the air. "You shutup Bugs !" The earlier angry voice shot back. "You know as well as I do that this whole scenario violates the rule of threes, never mind what it does to the law of equivalent exchange!" The smallest of the party placed the books down, not bothering to save the place in them he had previously held with his finger. He looked over at the complainer and sighed. "Danfole," he rasp...

Writing Prompts: You wake up one morning as your 10 year old self. You try to explain to your mom that you are a successful adult, as she tries to get you ready for school.

I discovered an old Reddit account I had for posting stories and writing prompts was somehow still active and decided to raid it for some of the older stuff I wrote while trying to get better at writing.  There isn't much but here is what there is...   Temporal displacement via avatar overlay is not a recommended version of time travel. Of course, since I was the first to travel in this manner and was completely ignorant of how it functioned that was unhelpful to me at the time. Accidental time travel; it’s a thing. Most people don’t know it’s possible and the powers that be are happier if it remains an unknown to prevent panic. Imagine if you could go to bed and wake up ten years old again? Or if walking out the door of a pub could land you in another continent before you left? Or if you went on vacation in France and discovered you had slipped through time to the days of the French Revolution? I’d fantasized about time slips before. Most everyone I know ...
