I wrote the following as a reply to the above post. Looking at the poster's profile on Reddit revealed where this person was coming from and it was not in good faith:
So rather than waste the text I decided to post it here on the blog since it was useful to organize my thoughts..
Not really sure what you're looking for here. Your point of view can be seen clearly from your Reddit profile. You seem to lump everyone in who makes anything with AI as being "AI Spam" so why should anyone give you the time of day? Your mind is clearly made up.
I enjoy lofi hiphop since I first encountered it via DI.FM and started listening to it, which I first discovered years ago when it was available on Kodi (then XBMC) as a streaming music addon. Back then I mostly listened to vocal lounge. When I discovered it again on YouTube it was not as part of the ever present lofi girl streams but instead via an AMV that someone put together that produced a mellow feeling.
So when I started using Suno to make music it was only natural that one day I would try to see what I could put together.
I make a podcast of songs I generate, using a character I came up with in Midjourney and animated to do a repeatable but varied set of movements by animating image to video. I seem to get enough people who like what I do that I'm volume 10 of the podcast now. When I started I made a series of vignettes with Noisee and edited the clip together to be a series of moods. I was later told by a friend that I was doing it wrong. That no one was paying attention to all that and anyone listening was just putting it on as background without watching the vignettes so I switched away to doing the more standard versions I make now.
I have not monetized nor do I realistically expect to ever hit the number of views needed within a year's time. But I am having fun and enough people seem to like what I make that I keep doing it. I don't care if I'm having 'wrongfun' to you.
It's not the sole focus of what I do. It's just one of the things I enjoy making and sharing. I put time and effort into it because I'm not into making "AI Spam" or "AI Slop" I'm into making something fun and cool to share with others.
My personal goal is to learn how to edit properly as I go along, making fun videos. If by some miracle I should end up monetized and making anything from this stuff it would only go towards getting better hardware so I could afford to do more of this stuff using tools I don't have access to now. And in subscribing to better video generators so I can get better character movements and in making better and better videos in general.
But it's a strange sort of dichotomy with this stuff. People get so upset about "AI Spam" or "AI slop" as if nothing good could possibly be made with AI but then they are also terrified of being replaced by AI. So which is it? Is AI generated stuff nothing but crap? Or is it possible that people are using AI as yet another tool to make things with? If the things being made are good, what is the problem?
Very odd.
