Confused by Music Videos, part one

So I put on Pat Benatar's Love is a Battlefield again (because I love the song) but for the love of Mike, can someone, anyone please explain the video to me?  As always it leaves me baffled.

Is the boy upstairs her brother or her boyfriend, like David was to Darlene on Roseanne?  (I know the video predates the tv show, it's just an example of a situation.)

And the lyrics for the scenes don't exactly help make sense of things here either.  Not too sure about that touching there given the uncertain relationship but the video has "Dad" telling her that if she leaves she can't come back so it's odd to think of it being a boyfriend in that circumstance, because wouldn't the boyfriend leave with her?  What exactly are they fighting for?  What is the battlefield in this case?

Is she supposed to be a paid dancer in that bar\club she's in?  Because honestly, she looks so excited to be there.  Just look at her face.

When she and the other girls in the bar fight back against the guy who appears to be running the place they shake their hips and ta-tas at him?  Then they actually dance?  And back to shaking the girls at him...  I'm confused again ...are  they fighting or in a relationship?  And is the guy a pimp or some kind of boyfriend?

Seriously, what is this?

There are so many mixed messages in this video...at times it feels like watching someone speaking in a foreign language.  You almost think you get it but then you're even more confused than you started after you keep listening.

You can watch the original music video on YouTube here:

  1. music videos often don't follow the mental imagery that i experience when listening to a song. i could direct a video on many different tracks, but their official video is usually surreal and potentially conflicting.

  2. we develop our own internal narrative based on the music, but the concept, and story in the Pat Benatar video, is relevant, and well developed. she wants to experience the world, leaving her family. a somber farewell to her brother, to pursue a more dramatic life. exploring the party scene, and returning by bus. i wished that there was a shot of her connecting with her brother, to share her vibrant memories.

I wrote the following as a reply to the above post.  Looking at the poster's profile on Reddit revealed where this person was coming from and it was not in good faith: So rather than waste the text I decided to post it here on the blog since it was useful to organize my thoughts.. Not really sure what you're looking for here. Your point of view can be seen clearly from your Reddit profile. You seem to lump everyone in who makes anything with AI as being "AI Spam" so why should anyone give you the time of day? Your mind is clearly made up. I enjoy lofi hiphop since I first encountered it via DI.FM and started listening to it, which I first discovered years ago when it was available on Kodi (then XBMC) as a streaming music addon. Back then I mostly listened to vocal lounge. When I discovered it again on YouTube it was not as part of the ever present lofi girl streams but instead via an AMV that someone put together that produced a mellow feeling.     So when I ...

Writing Prompts: You wake up one morning as your 10 year old self. You try to explain to your mom that you are a successful adult, as she tries to get you ready for school.

I discovered an old Reddit account I had for posting stories and writing prompts was somehow still active and decided to raid it for some of the older stuff I wrote while trying to get better at writing.  There isn't much but here is what there is...   Temporal displacement via avatar overlay is not a recommended version of time travel. Of course, since I was the first to travel in this manner and was completely ignorant of how it functioned that was unhelpful to me at the time. Accidental time travel; it’s a thing. Most people don’t know it’s possible and the powers that be are happier if it remains an unknown to prevent panic. Imagine if you could go to bed and wake up ten years old again? Or if walking out the door of a pub could land you in another continent before you left? Or if you went on vacation in France and discovered you had slipped through time to the days of the French Revolution? I’d fantasized about time slips before. Most everyone I know ...
